Nigeria, Korea Share Affinity In Music, Dance – Envoy

Ambassador of South Korea to Nigeria, Mr. Kim Pan-kyu, has said Nigerians and Koreans share strong cultural affinity in their love of music and dance.

Kim who spoke at the 12th edition of the Korea Film Festival in Nigeria, said the shared love of music and dance had over the years spilled into films, fashion and cuisine.

Alongside the 2021 Netflix Korean hit series ‘Squid Games’, Pan-kyu said ‘Alchemy of Souls’ was the most watched drama series on Netflix in Nigeria in 2023.

Recognising the importance of introducing Korean films in Nigeria, the embassy in 2022 signed an MoU with AIT to begin streaming of Korean series and animation on the television station, hence ‘The Fiery Priest’ is currently airing on the channel.

The 12th edition which runs through September 19 to 21, features five films.

Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Obi Asika, referenced the popularity of Korean popular dance (K-Pop) and K-drama among Nigerians, including his family members.
