Top African professional golfers will jostle for the increased N20m prize money at the second eTranzact Golf Classic scheduled to hold at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja from May 15 to 17, 2024.
The Classic debuted on the PGD Tour last year at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Course in Lagos with Francis Epe of Ikoyi Club 1938 Lagos emerging champion. The three-day event will also feature amateur golfers, with over 100 players already registered for the Classic.
With participating players expected from Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Togo, Senegal and hosts Nigeria, Niyi Toluwalope, managing director of eTranzact International, said the sponsor was committed to promoting golf in the continent.
“When we partnered with the PGD Tours last year, we promised that the Classic would provide a platform to promote and elevate professional and amateur golfing in Africa, while fostering business to business collaborations, and facilitating partnerships between business and government.
“This year, we are re-affirming our commitment to this noble sporting event, and all that it has to offer. We have taken our support a notch higher by introducing some exciting changes around the event. The increased prize money is also a further demonstration of our commitment to make the Classic more competitive and attract the absolute best of golfers to perform at this stage,” Toluwalope said.

Speaking at the press conference to herald the event on Friday in Abuja, the new captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Ibrahim Babayo, applauded the sponsor, eTranzact International, for bringing the event to the IBB Golf Course, saying it will help showcase the Club and Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city to the world.
