Group Lauds Customs CG‘s Swift Response To Petitions

A civil society organisation (CSO), Transparency Watch Initiative, has commended the comptroller-general of customs, Mr Wale Adeniyi, for his swift response to petitions and complaints from Nigerians against the agency.

It hailed Adeniyi over his commitment to transparency and accountability.

The group‘s coordinator, Comrade Usmar Umar, told journalists in Abuja that Adeniyi‘s actions were in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s administration aimed at promoting good governance.

He said, „Our group has written letters on complaints made by some Nigerians regarding issues with the Customs Service, and the Controller General responded promptly by ordering replacements without delay.“

Umar said Transparency Watch had received grievances from the public and duly forwarded them to the Customs leadership.

Impressed with Adeniyi‘s decisiveness in addressing the concerns, the group assured him of continued cooperation and support in propagating his achievements.

„This is how public office holders should conduct themselves,“ Umar declared, lauding the controller general‘s responsiveness to citizens’ feedback.

However, the transparency advocate called for expedited attention to three new issues the group had submitted to Adeniyi on May 21, urging the Customs chief to maintain the same alacrity in resolving pending matters.

Additionally, Transparency Watch appealed to Adeniyi to reopen an investigation into an accident involving a truck belonging to a company in Ibadan.

The case, which occurred during the previous administration led by former Comptroller General Ali, had been probed by the customs investigative department but remains unresolved.

Umar also emphasized the need for improved welfare for officers and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, asserting that their well-being is crucial to maintaining high standards of professionalism and service delivery.
