NEDC Trains Solar Technicians To Check Power Outage In Taraba

North East Development Commission (NEDC) has trained and equipped 30 technicians on solar power installation to reduce the overdependence on electricity supply from the national grid in Taraba State.

The training was also targeted at making the youths to be self-reliant and reduce their heavy dependence on government for jobs.

Taraba State coordinator of NEDC, Bashiru Hamajulde, who presented certificates and start-up kits to the trainees at Taraba State University on Saturday, said the commission organised the training to boost solar power usage among the people of the zone since electricity supply to the North East zone had become a mirage.

The North East zone particularly Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states have been thrown into blackout for over two weeks, linked to the vandalism of four transmission towers on Jos-Gombe 330KV Line since April 22, 2024.

He said the commission, after training the youths, has earmarked financial support and working tools to enable them to hit the ground running by not just embarking on installation of solar power to the people but also to train others within their areas to reduce unemployment rate in the state.

“We are trying to ensure that youths in the zone are self-reliance, from this training, you are expected to go and train others in your communities, you are provided with all that you need, don’t sell the kits we have provided for you, help yourself and the community, we want to lessen the burden on the government in terms of employments,’’ he added.
