Police ASP, Accomplice Arrested Over Alleged Kidnap Of Minors In Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers and an accomplice over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of five minors in the state.

Spokesman of the Command, ASP Ahmad Rufai, who confirmed the arrest of the officer simply identified as ASP Kulu and Elizabeth, an accomplice, said investigations have commenced on the case.

It could be recall that Kulu, an assistant superintendent of police, together with Elizabeth, was arrested by the FCT Police Command for allegedly abducting five children, including a less than two weeks old baby girl from Sokoto State.

The spokesman said, “Both the suspects and the victims were transfer and handed over to the command from FCT Police Command for further investigation into the matter.”

Among those abducted were three toddlers below the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u who was reportedly abducted while on her way to an Islamiyya School in Sokoto.

The suspects were said to be arrested while travelling from Sokoto to Abuja in a commercial 18-seater bus when some passengers alerted the police near Abuja after noticing that the suspects could not breastfeed the children during the hectic seven-hour journey.

An official of the Sokoto State Human Rights Network, Sirajo Madawaki, said the case was transferred to the network from Abuja, saying that investigation into the case has since begun.

He assured that the network will pursue the case to its logical conclusion to ensure that the suspect were prosecuted while the children have reunited with their respective parents.

The suspect, ASP Kulu who was said to be serving with the Kubwa Division, had applied for leave which was not granted before her trip to Sokoto.
